Dr. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware and a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.
He completed an Internship year at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency program as well as a Neuroradiology Fellowship at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center/University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Thompson then served as a Staff Radiologist, as well as the Chief of the Department of Radiology, Fort Carson Army Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He then became Chief, Section of General Angiography and Neuroradiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Following his military career, Dr. Thompson was the Chief of Radiology, Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE.
He joined Annapolis Radiology Associates in 1983. His academic credentials have included an appointment as visiting consultant at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology and licensed to practice medicine in Maryland.
Dr. Thompson is an expert in diagnostic minimally invasive therapy of spine disorders, and has lectured nationally and internationally pain disorders of the spine. He as authored or co-authored numerous articles on the subject of spinal disorders.
